Jazz Research 43: Die Stilistik von John Scofield Author: Márton Szegedi Price: € 69,00
The American guitarist John Leavitt Scofield, born in 1951 has been one of the most renowned multi-stylists of contemporary jazz within the last 35 years as well as one of the most popular jazz musicians of his generation. It is his stylistic manifoldness that makes up the starting point of this investigation. The thesis at hand exclusively uses primary sources, which in most of the cases are audio recordings of Scofield. Because of the complexity of his music a written outline of the works is provided in order to be able to communicate the findings. For this purpose, detailed musical transcriptions of selected works have been prepared by the author, to serve as the basis of this analysis. The subject matter of this study includes stylistically distinct works of different characters, comparisons of the same improvisations played in different sessions, contrasting with other guitarists, as well as the intention to cover a broad chronological interval.
