Monuments of German Music (DDT) - the series
Standing order price: € 2.569,50

THE EDITION:
At the time, the publication of the Denkmäler Deutscher Tonkunst was the result of a joint idea born by Philipp Spitta, Friedrich Chrysander and Oskar von Hase. Under the energetic guidance of Rochus von Liliencron, Hermann Kretzschmar, Hermann Abert and Arnold Schering it was possible to cover 16th-18th century German musical composition with its milestones of tonal expression interpretable in modern terms, and hence secure a substantial record of practical German musical history. With the destruction of the Breitkopf & Härtel publishing house in Leipzig in December 1943, the entire stock of editions of the 'Masters' series was lost. In collaboration with the original publishers Breitkopf & Härtel in Wiesbaden, the Akademische Druck- u. Verlagsanstalt in Graz has published a new edition of all 65 volumes. Compared with the old version, the new edition 1957-1961 features numerous improvements to the sheet music. Furthermore, each volume also contains a report on the new revision by Hans Joachim Moser that refers not only to errors that were corrected but also to today's position of musical science regarding the contents of the corresponding volume and the decisions of former revisers.
