The Biographical Dictionary of Contemporary Afghanistan is an comprehensive reference work, based on published and unpublished sources in a number of languages and on hundreds of interviews with Afghan personalities. It is a sequel to the Who’s Who of Afghanistan (1975) and ist supplement on the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan (1979). The 1975 work was largely historical, dealing primarily with the preiod from 1714 to 1945; the latter was primarily limited in scope and covered only the early Khalqi preiod. The focus of the present volume is on the preiod after the second World War.
