The miniature library of out of print ADEVA facsimile editions has been extended with an important volume. With the appearance of the Oldenburger Mirror of the Saxons, a German illuminated manuscript appears for the first time in this series. As one out of altogether 4 illustrated copies of the Mirror of the Saxons from Eike von Repgow (between 224 and 1230\1), a manuscript of special importance comes in the year 1336 from the Rastede Monastery written by the monk Hinrik Gloyesten.
Over 600 pictorials describe and illustrate the text of the Mirror of the Saxons, which was conceived as a didactically instructional work to present in the best practical way, the realm of Saxon land and feudal law. The period illustrations of the people's clothing, armament and equipment afford one an exceptional insight into the everyday cultural life of the 14th century.
